  Danny Gough, CGP, is a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified Building Analyst Professional, specializing in investigating and diagnosing building failures as well as helping to prevent failures. Danny has over 30 years experience in engineering and designing high performance HVAC systems including geothermal, solar and radiant heating and cooling. His design of the solar heating system for Piedmont Natural Gas district office in Winston Salem, NC was featured in North Carolina Professional Engineering Magazine in December of 1983 as being one of the largest commercial solar projects in NC. He has held a NC mechanical contractor’s license for over 30 years.

Danny is an instructor for the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) University of Housing and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA). He serves on the executive committee of the Triad Green Building Council (TGBC) and provides training to builders and trade partners. He is an approved verifier for the National Green Building Standards and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Guidelines.

Danny has been a featured speaker at state and national energy conferences. His work has been the subject of numerous articles in the Winston Salem Journal, Triad Business Journal, WXII News Channel 12, FOX 8 WGHP and WSJS Radio. He is also the author of two books: Solar Fundamentals and Build it Right.

 Dana Myers

Dana Myers has spent her early years as a Building Science “Trainee,” following her Dad (Danny) around new and existing homes, helping investigate comfort complaints, building defects and learning building science physics.

Dana was already a seasoned veteran when she completed her National Certified Home Energy Rater certification at Southface Energy Institute.

Dana assists with all home performance testing and handles inspections and testing for the Advanced Energy System Vision program for Habitat for Humanity and other non profit organizations.  She also holds the Healthy Home Specialist designation from the National Center for Healthy Housing and is an approved verifier for the National Green Building Standards and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Guidelines.

In addition to being a full time mom, Dana somehow also finds time to teach green building at Forsyth Technical Community College as well as builder education classes for the Triad Green Building Council (TGBC).

Jeff Failing

Jeff comes to Energy Solutions with 23 years of experience as a custom home builder. He has held a general contractor's license in NC for over 25 years and is also a licensed home inspector. As Vice President of a local construction company, Jeff provided oversight and management of all aspects of residential construction. He has worked on small remodeling projects and new homes up to $1.5 million. 

Jeff is a NC licensed home inspector, certified mold investigator and provides consulting on indoor air quality issues. He has also passed the Resnet Exam for Home Energy Raters and is a quality assurance inspector working with builders and homeowners for both new and existing homes. 

Jeff has a BS in elementary education and is a past board member of Habitat for Humanity. He is a member of Salem Baptist Church where he has served in numerous positions and lives in West Salem in a 1927 home which he and his wife have renovated and preserved.

Matthew Myers

In what began as an effort to impress his in-laws, Matt Myers has spent the last 10 years helping out around high performance homes.

From carrying in equipment and learning the basics of building science, Matt has now achieved the National HERS Rater certification and is qualified to certify, inspect, and test homes as Energy Star qualified.  In addtion, Matt has training and experience doing Manual J 8th edition load calculation HVAC equipment sizing and selection for new homes. Matt assists with high performance home certification and HVAC sizing.


Matt also specializes in existing home energy audits and Comprehensive Home Assessments. With a strong background in building science technology and construction-related retail sales, Matt provides invaluable information and experience to help homeowners find, repair, and evaluate energy leaks and consumption.


Finally, Matt helps out with all Habitat for Humanity inspections and testing and assists with quality control on new home inspections and testing. Matt has an Associate in Arts degree from Wilkes Community College and is a Nationally Certified RESNET HERS Rater.
